Scientist - Boundary Particle Transport

Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) is seeking a Scientist for Boundary Particle Transport in Devens, MA. This full-time role with the SPARC Team involves working on Tokamak Operations in a hybrid capacity. CFS, in collaboration with MIT, is focused on commercializing fusion energy through innovative high-temperature superconducting magnet technology to build compact, cost-effective fusion power plants. The scientist will contribute to the ongoing operation and experimental campaigns of the SPARC tokamak, aiming to achieve breakthroughs in fusion energy generation. Key responsibilities include predicting and interpreting particle transport in the edge and scrape-off-layer, developing models for fueling and impurity transport, informing plasma control systems, managing modeling results, and collaborating on international projects. Qualifications include a PhD in plasma physics or related field, expertise in tokamak plasma physics, strong analytical and numerical modeling skills, adaptability, and dedication to safety.
